Development Director

Position Summary: The Micah's Promise Development Director works with the Executive Director to create, implement, maintain, and manage the organization’s appeal for funding. Additionally, the Development Director identifies and cultivates new funding sources. This role serves as a high-profile representative of Micah's Promise who works in collaboration with Micah's Promise staff to build lasting relationships with significant funding sources, including individual, group, foundations, corporations and churches. The Development Director will manage an identified portfolio of funding sources while increasing the portfolio to include new sources.

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

Current Donors :

  • Promotes a consistent program of constituency development per the standards of performance required. Attends special donor development events as requested

  • Manages donor communication efforts in a planned and consistent manner

  • Personally, calls on major donors and prospects and engages appropriate Micah's Promise staff, as needed. Utilizes the cultivation model: identification, research, relationship building, asking, advocacy, prospecting/referrals, upgrading donors

  • Promotes planned giving opportunities to Micah's Promise donors

  • Creates opportunities to increase missional and financial connection between churches

  • Works with Executive Director to maintain a stable network of donors who have an excellent experience with Micah's Promise and feel great about giving far into the future

  • Works toward developing and leveraging networks to support development goals of increased giving.

  • Assists in matching program activities, both current and future concepts, with potential sources of funding

Identifies and Acquires New Revenue Sources :

  • Develops and implements fundraising, public relations and promotional efforts to prospective donors -­‐ general public, businesses, foundations, civic groups, colleges, churches, major donors etc.

  • Suggests creative means of raising funds to increase total revenues

  • Seeks new partnerships through effective prospecting and networking

  • Identifies and cultivates new prospects for annual and major gifts.

  • Develops own portfolio of major donor prospects; brings top prospects to the attention of the Executive Director 

  • Manages a portfolio of major donor prospects through the identification, discovery, and qualification process with a focus on renewing and upgrading donors at the $10,000-­‐$100,000 level

  • Conducts initial exploratory meetings with donors and prospects to determine capacity and interest in supporting Micah's Promise at the major gift level

Competently Managing Data and Communications

  • Handles major gift prospect tracking process for Micah's Promise

  • Maintains accurate donor records and files in Donor Perfect

  • Maintains prospect tracking, management and rating systems within the Donor Perfect database, and assist in the evaluation and development of new research techniques and technologies.

  • Writes and edits grants, proposals, reports, letters, brochures, and other communications in collaboration with Executive Director

  • Creates social media posts

Complying with Micah's Promise Philosophies and Standards

  • Seeks out training and learning opportunities to enhance skills (particularly in the area of fundraising)

  • Performs other duties as requested by the Executive Director

  • Complies with ECFA and AFP standards for ethics and accountability in fundraising

Professional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and at least 2 years of experience working in a complex organization with a proven track record of success in developing relationships with and soliciting major donors, and developing prospects.

  • Ability to develop compelling proposals, reports, and value propositions with a precise attention to detail. Ability to creatively customize communications to a range of audiences: individual supporters, foundations, companies, churches and other partners.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to interact professionally on the phone, by email and in person with all levels of donors, staff, and the general public

  • Willingness to travel to meet with donors and prospective donors

  • High professional standards and ability to build passion for Micah's Promise ministry

  • Creative research, analytical and problem-solving   skills, strategic thinking and a  proven team player.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with thoroughness, accuracy, timeliness and a positive spirit.

  • Enjoy building multifaceted relationships with donors and derive great job satisfaction from enhancing and scaling fundraising systems

  • Track record of designing, implementing, and directing fundraising initiatives, including customized cultivation, solicitation and recognition strategies

  • Ability to modify processes in response to changing circumstances

  • History of dedicated volunteer activity and/or commitment to non-­‐profit organizations

  • Experience working with fundraising databases (Donor Perfect experience preferred).

  • Experience working with donor research

  • Have a very high level of personal and professional integrity and trustworthiness

  • Work well independently as well as part of a team
